Abstract

For a given trip, an air traveller makes a series of interrelated decisions. Apart from the choice to travel by air instead of, for instance, by car or by train, he or she chooses between the various available flights. This involves, among other things, via which airport to travel, whether to take a direct flight or transfer at another airport, how to travel to the airport, etc. The paper describes a model system which represents this long distance travel choice process and is currently operational in a prototypical state.
