Abstract

This paper summarises the activities under the ATT (Advanced Transport Telematics) programme conducted within the Integrated Inter-Urban Traffic Management (IIUTM) Area 4 project. The ATT programme addresses a wide range of issues related to the introduction of IIUTM systems. The paper introduces the key issues. These include: a) monitoring and surveillance; b) inter-urban traffic management; and c) strategic organisation and management issues. It concludes that the consideration, within Area 4, of both individual ATT techniques and integration of those techniques within major pilot projects provides a clear step forward towards wide-scale implementation.
