Abstract

The EC STEEDS project has developed a Strategic Transport-Energy-Environment Decision Support system. The software helps users to explore options for influencing the deployment of different vehicles for environmental benefits, in the face of socioeconomic uncertainty and multiple policy objectives. The software aims to support holistic assessment at national and European levels, for policy-makers and industry. In order to provide a comprehensive assessment, the models cover passenger and freight transport across all transport modes, providing annual projections to 2030 for all EU Member States. To allow the full environmental consequences of the take-up of new propulsion technologies (such as electric vehicles) to be analysed, vehicle life-cycle and fuel life-cycle emissions are calculated, including their impacts on health, buildings, crops etc. In this paper, the innovative aspects of the model are described and illustrated.
