Abstract

This short article describes the integrated payment systems for public transport used in the GAUDI (Generalised and AUtomatic Debiting Innovation) project. Brief details of the system design are presented. Smart cards are used for payment. This is followed by a short description of the use of the system in: a) Dublin for paying for buses, car parks and toll road fees; b) Marseilles, for paying for all public transport modes; and c) Trondheim for toll road payments. A trial of the system is to be conducted in Barcelona, and the results expected from this survey are discussed.
