This paper will discuss where Alberta Transportation & Utilities is at in relation to some of the technologies that are impacting the highway transportation industry in the surveying field and how they impact design, drafting and construction. Different methods of data acquisition and processing are being used and investigated to ensure efficient and cost effective operation. Technologies covered include total stations, electronic data collectors, photogrammetry, and GPS. Data storage in a future GIS is also discussed.
