Abstract

The traffic monitoring system in the traffic management center of Berlin contains a real time traffic condition estimation system that uses a transport model based approach to process data from ca. 250 stationary detectors. This system was complemented by floating car data (FCD) from different sources including a taxi FCD system and bus FCD. The FCD travel time is translated to a level of service by applying speed thresholds determined by comparing between local measurements and FCD. The level of service computed by the estimation based on local measurements is then integrated with the FCD-generated LOS using again a reliability-based approach.
