Abstract

This paper describes the current efforts made by ATAF, the transit company of the Florence Metropolitan Area in the integration of the Integrated Payment (IP) system with the AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) system in order to utilize the same short-range communication device. Aspects described include operational, service and technolgical impacts. Some information is provided on the fare transaction data flow and on the functional architecture of the IP system taking into account the AVL environment.
