Abstract

Technological development stimulates the development of various kinds of traffic and traveller information applications. Although such systems in principle may help to make car use safer and to reduce its environmental impacts, the presence of too much information may overload the driver and have an adverse effect on safety. There is clearly a need for integration and prioritisation of information, and for a harmonised and consistent presentation to the driver. As traffic information comes from traffic management systems there is a link to such systems. The main goal of the TRAVEL-GUIDE project is the development of guidelines for the provision of information by traffic information and traffic management systems. In this EU-funded project, that has a duration of 2 years and started 01 April 2000, 12 partners from 7 countries participate.
