Abstract

Traffic education in the Czech Republic is not a special subject in the curriculum, it is included in several subjects such as mathematics, physical training and social subjects. The paper discusses the use of British material in English lessons at Czech elementary schools. The project is designed to encourage the wearing of cycle helmets, the wearing of bright and reflective materials when cycling and the remembering of basic behaviour when crossing the street. The course also had the objective of improving idiomatic English and increasing pupils general vocabulary. It was also devised to make English lessons more interesting. After two months a survey is to be undertaken to assess the attitudes and ideas of assess the attitudes and ideas of pupils and teachers towards the project. The results of this survey will determine how the project will proceed.
