Abstract

For the Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV) project proposed by the Japanese Ministry of Transport, the following three themes were chosen according to the analyzed results of traffic accident data and each of these themes were promoted with an individual ASV for optimum efficiency of this study: (1) accident prediction and prevention technology with an intelligent navigation system (Honda ASV 1); (2) collision avoidance by radar technology to compensate for driver errors in perception and judgment (Honda ASV 2); and (3) pedestrian protection safety technology to prevent accidents and reduce injury (Honda ASV 3). The fundamental function of the technologies should be suitable for the driving public. Some of these technologies are now being studied for practical use.
