Abstract

The aim of this Issues Paper is a further refinement and clarification of the ITS Workshop outcomes and so that the following is achieved: the identification of the extent and role of ITS applications and their potential impact on future road asset management (in a road agency context of fixed road infrastructure); and, the development of an outline for a research program for Austroads funding so that the potential benefits from ITS are also potential benefits for road asset management. Alternatively, any potential losses from the impact of ITS are minimised for road asset management. The Issues Paper is based on the basic framework established by the Austroads National Strategy for the integration of ITS into improving the performance of the whole transport system.
