Abstract

This paper serves to provide an overview of the present ITS systems that have been successfully deployed in Hong Kong including those that have been used in traffic control and management, electronic toll collection, fleet management, electronic payment for the public transit system and information dissemination on public buses. Together with research in Hong Kong on various ITS areas such as automatic visual surveillance of roads, internet live traffic video, and automatic vehicle recognition, these will provide the foundation for the development and deployment of the next generation of ITS.
