Abstract
This document provides a framework for intelligent transport systems (ITS) in the UK. It considers: transport policy objectives; the role of the Department for Transport; improved road network management; improving road safety; better traveller information; improved public transport on roads; amore efficient road freight industry; reducing negative environmental impacts such as noise, vehicle emissions, and road construction / maintenance; security / emergency planning; and improved co-ordination, compatibility and interoperability.
