Abstract

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is a means to make better use of the existing transport infrastructure. Thus, the system becomes more attractive which might increase traffic demand unless there are additional technical or non-technical measures reducing the traffc. ITS must not be considered in isolation embedded in a set for long, medium, and short term measures suitable as a whole for meeting general objectives in the transport sector, in particular for improving safety, environmental compatibility, and economy. If accompanied by external measures that comply with all social objectives, especially the restriction of environmental impacts, a control strategy using ITS should try to suggest a user optimum solution ITS should try to suggest a user optimum solution promising highest acceptance and the most positive effects.
