Abstract

Transport infrastructure designers are currently facing a shift in clients' demands from infrastructure design and build to ITS design and build in order to achieve a better utilization of existing infrastructure. As a means of defining its strategy in this evolving market, Egis Group (a world-wide transport infrastructure designer, project financing engineer and network operator) undertook an independent world-wide market research study concerning ITS from mid-2000 to mid-2001. This paper summarizes the key aspects of the study mainly considering the viewpoint of capabilities of engineering and consultancy firms in the field of designing, financing and operating complex transport infrastructure. Though the study was tailored to needs and interests of Egis Group, many aspects are of interest for companies operating in the same field of activities.
