Abstract

The Kansai Economic Federation examined traffic problems and related industrial issues in the Kansai region, and published a report about regional Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) deployment in 1999. Based on this report, the private and public sectors founded the Kansai ITS Promotion Association (KIPA), and five deployment initiatives were planned and will be implemented in the next three years. The initiatives are as follows: introducing ITS in events and for sightseers, introducing ITS-oriented logistics, introducing ITS downtown, introducing ITS in the Kansai Science City, and improving ITS awareness. This paper focuses on the initiatives and the challenges towards their implementation. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
