Abstract

This SAE special publication includes the papers presented during the 1995 SAE International Congress & Exposition. These papers address technologies and concepts that are vehicle based and have the potential to make very substantial improvements in highway system productivity, capacity and safety by overcoming inherent limitations in driver capabilities. Development of these enabling technologies is needed to bring Advanced Vehicle Control Systems (AVCS) and Automated Highway Systems (AHS) forward to deployment. These are the subsystems or components that will be combined to produce fully functional systems.
