Abstract

Optimum intensity settings for approach and runway lighting are calculated, taking into account that the increase in visibility by raising the intensity is counteracted by a decrease in visibility by the masking effect of atmospheric and entoptic straylight. though doubt can be raised as to specific assumptions, the recommendations made may serve well as a starting point.
