In the Group Cooperative Driving Demonstration (Demo-2000) held by MEL (Mechanical Engineering Laboratory) and JSK (Association of Electronic Technology for Automobile Traffic and Driving), DOLPHIN (Dedicated Omni-purpose inter-vehicle communication Linkage Protocol for HIghway automatioN) was adopted for the communication protocol for IVC (Inter-Vehicle Communications) system. The DOLPHIN protocol steered the Demo-2000 to success. This paper shows the outline of the DOLPHIN protocol which is simplified to implement into the actual DSRC-IVC (Dedicated Short Range Communication type Inter-Vehicle Communications) system. It is clarified that the DOLPHIN protocol is effective in the group cooperative driving.
