Abstract

Self medication, and self induced changes in mood, are seen as critical factors in the development of compulsive drug abuse. Drug users tend to switch between drugs because their usual drug is not available, or in order not to develop too much tolerance for one drug. Poly drug is not only confined to pharmaceutical substances, but appears to be quite common with social drugs, also often abuse alcohol. Combination of drugs with alcohol should not be encouraged.
