Abstract

Interactive Traffic and Fleet Management covers the sectors PRO-ROAD and PRO-GEN of the European research programme PROMETHEUS. Research, development and implementation of infrastructure and infrastructure-based vehicle systems require strong cooperation between different sectors. A broad consensus must be formed taking into account the different aspects. The technical committee has identified and described functions which contribute to the programme objectives. This article describes these functions briefly. They include; Static Route Guidance (SRG); Dynamic Route Guidance (DRG); trip planning; intelligent traffic control, which includes intersection, traffic flow and road network control; parking management; transport demand management and public transport or freight management. Brief details of current projects, some of these are provided. The system concepts derived from these functions are going to be realized in either company demonstrations or Common European Demonstrations (CED). The crucial topic is the preparation of standards for some new communication links.
