Abstract

This is a final report on a study to determine the traffic effects of special colour coding applied to a series of conventional interchange on a 40-mile rural freeway system. The 18 interchanges with the colour coding in the northbound direction only contained diamond, loop and connector ramp types. It appears there is a good potential to ease the drivers task by presenting a better delineated path, more easily understood and resulting in less confusion and apparently fewer accidents.
