Abstract

As a supplement to a retrospective investigation of truck accidents, an in-depth study on the interior safety of truck cabs with regard to the danger to the occupants was carried out by order of the Forschungsvereinigung Automobiltechnik e.V., FAT (the Germany Research Association for Automobile Technology), in the Verband der Automobilindustrie, VDA (Federation of the Automobile Industry). DEKRA (Deutscher Kraftfahrzeug-UUberwachungsVerein e.V.) accident experts performed on the spot investigations of 33 accidents involving trucks over 3.5 tons, and this work allowed conclusions to be reached concerning the relationship between the following: (1) the accident sequence with the relevant parameters of the accident site, accident vehicle, collision partner and persons involved, (2) the damage to trucks, especially to the interior and exterior of the truck cab, (3) causes of injury inside and outside the truck cab, (4) seriousness of injury to the truck occupants. The study will eventually include investigations of approximately 100 accidents with trucks. For the covering abstract of the conference, see IRRD 837684.
