Abstract

This book presents the results of a 1993 OECD/ECMT seminar on the subject of internalising the social costs of transport. There are chapters each written by different authors. The chapters are: (1) overview of internalising the social costs of transport (Button, K.); (2) the social costs of transport : evaluation and links with internalisation policies (Quinet, E.); (3) effects of internalisation on transport demand and model split (Kågeson, P.); (4) the art of internalisation (Bleijenberg, A.); (5) obstacles to the use of economic instruments in transport policy (Rothengatter, W.); (6) equity and acceptability questions in internalising the social costs of transport (Banister, B.); (7) European Union policy on taxes and charges in the road transport sector (Vreckem, D. van); and (8) summary and conclusions (Bonnafous, A.)
