Abstract

Many of the time series in this edition have been completely revised. Changes in road accident deaths in the member countries of the European Community are discussed and compared with those in selected countries in the rest of Europe, and with statistics for Japan and the USA. Statistics for Portugal are omitted from all tables and charts that relate to either road users or age groups as data are not available. Data are provided on: 1) road accident deaths by a) age group and b) road user type; 2) car and motorcycle user deaths a) per billion vehicles; and b) per billion vehicle kilometres. Sections are also provided on estimating and modelling car user deaths, and on road safety measures.
