Abstract

The international standards organisations are described briefly. Several of these organisations are presently involved in drafting standards for the use of retroreflective traffic control devices. The overlap of responsibilities of the personnel in these organisations was realised some years ago and they have written agreements of co-operation. The measurements required for the delineation of requirements, the testing and calibration of measuring instruments, the state of the standards currently in use, the United States Department of Transportation / Federal Highway Administration manual on uniform traffic control devices and the status of minimum maintained retroreflectivity guidelines are reviewed. For the covering abstract see ITRD E123380.
