Abstract

In the context of an agreement for cooperation between the US Department of Transportation (DoT) and the Dutch Ministry of Transport and Public Works, discussions were held between employees of the Volpe National Transportation Center, the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) on the one hand, and employees of the Netherlands Transport Research Centre (AVV) on the other hand. At the invitation of AVV, a SWOV representative participated in these discussions. In preparation to the discussions, among other things, the following themes were elaborated by SWOV: the lack of road safety in the Netherlands and the approach to this situation; selection and training of older road users; alcohol and drugs use; and graduated driving licence. Moreover, some advices on more specific subjects were given by SWOV. This report gives an account of the discussions held, and includes the theme elaborations and advices given.
