ln 2005 the Minister of Transport established a National Committee to consolidate policy to minimize road traffic crashes and casualities in Israel. One of the acute problems raised by the committee was the Iack of research and education and the need to establish a new generation of young researchers, as weil as issues concerning the completeness and reliability of road safety data. ln light of this urgent need the Ran Naor Research Foundation for the advancement of road safety research in cooperation with the Yad Hanadiv Foundation (Rothschild foundation) invited 2006 an International Advisory Committee, to meet with the academic institutions and the national authorities acting in this field in Israel. The results of two meetings du ring July and November 2006 and the report of the International Committee will be summarized on the following pages. (Author/publisher)
