Abstract

In 2005 the UK Department for Transport announced limited pump priming funding for seven Local Authorities / Regions from its Transport Innovation Fund. The money has assisted with initial studies and data capture around programmes to reduce road congestion. It is considered that for the implementation of any subsequent charging schemes to be successful; the core of solutions defined and implemented in due course must support interoperability between the schemes, in particular, where road charging requires infrastructure in vehicles and at the roadside.
