Abstract

Run-off-road accidents by inattentive or sleepy drivers on high standard rural freeways have been a concern of highway engineers and law enforcement officials for a long time. This report describes the development and experience with indented rumble strips installed along the shoulders of 93 miles of freeways in the Mojave Desert of Southeastern California.
