Interurban rural roads and motorways. Report from Bulgaria.

Abstract

The state road network of Bulgaria has kept pace with modern times and consists of expressways (221 km) and other rural roads divided into four classes and has a total length of 37594 km. The results obtained from the investigation of traffic conditions and road accidents are presented in this paper. The method adopted for identifying blackspots on ural roads is given. The high effectiveness of the measures for improving traffic conditions on rural roads and in small village areas is emphasized and a scheme for evaluation of this effectiveness is shown.
