Abstract

This paper addresses an inherit limitation of TRANSYT traffic model namely the absence of the representation of space in the model. More specifically, spatial elements are introduced through different modules and their impact on the simulation results is investigated. First, the introduction of dummy junctionsuthat enable the monitoring of traffic conditions within the links is discussed. The impact of such introduction in the estimation of the IN profiles is identified. Second, the inclusion of a module to cater for the occurrence of over-saturation is discussed. The proposed module defines the queuing capacity of a link and the impact of its implementation on the different variants of the rate of delay is demonstrated. The modifications discussed in this paper can enhance the usability and reliability of the TRANSYT traffic model. (Author/publisher).
