Abstract

The movement of a single vehicle is determined through the eyes of an observer who only sees the movement itself, but not its motivation. As soon as the movement is determined it is processed by means of kinematics, or described by mathematical/statistical methods. A summary of the most common mathematical distributions and their parameters are presented in the chapter on "movement of several vehicles on a road"; these distributions are required to describe the stream of traffic, and in particular traffic volume, speed, following distance etc.
