Abstract

Urban road accidents are still a major cause of great losses all over the world and especially in developing countries. Because of the nature of this phenomenon which is a complicated interaction of multi-cause events, it needs profound and versatile research in order to be thoroughly understood and optimum counter-measures to be taken. In Iran, there has been very little research in this important subject. This paper identifies important related factors. These are: 1) road engineering, 2) vehicle-safety, 3) traffic law enforcement, and education and training in Iran. Also a case-study of an important major road between the two most populated cities of Iran is presented. (A)
