It is one of the most important tasks for highway engineers to provide adequate visual information for drivers and help their appropriate driving. For this purpose, we have developed a driving simulator supported by three-dimensional visualization techniques and it becomes possible to do various useful experiments in a laboratory. This system was named Virtual Evaluation system for Road Space (VERS). In this paper, the authors will introduce the structure of this system and several studies that were carried out for analyzing the relationship between drivers' behavior and specific features of roadway and its facilities. Besides as an evaluation tool for these roadway design alternatives in advance of their implementation, this system has further possibility of application to the development of Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
