Abstract

Road traffic information has been one of the important elements for traffic information systems. The information can be found on the road where Variable Message Sign (VMS) and other platforms have been widely utilized forsuch application. In this study, different visualization types of trafficinformation have been proposed, using text or graphical information. Investigation on how the driver reacts to different visualization type of traffic information while they are in different driving scenarios, from less to the most congested road was conducted. From the results, more drivers tend to choose combination of graphic and text’ information. The variable understandability was significantly ranked as the best for text information while the variable usefulness was considered as the favorable one for combination of graphic and text.
