Abstract

The historical background of the automobile shimmy problem is outlined with particular reference to the properties of the vehicle tyre. An apparatus for the determination of the tyre properties is described. The experimental results obtained are compared with those predicted theoretically and the agreement is found to be reasonable. Discussions and authors' reply are appended.
