Abstract
Study objectives were to evaluate the safety and traffic operations effectiveness of several freeway lane drop configurations. Aerial photographs were taken of several volumes of traffic at three lane drop sites, time-history trajectories of all vehicles were computed, and measures of traffic operations and safety were determined. No significant differences in safety effectiveness were identified. Further development of the aerial photographic data reduction system is needed.
