Abstract

Traffic signs, markings and signals were evaluated both in the laboratory and on the road to measure the recognizability of both standard and experimental signs. A questionnaire is designed to provide information about population stereotypes as to the meaning of the traffic control device as a symbol, the implication of this meaning for action, and the preference for one control device over another.
