In the discussion on the pros and cons of speed control humps the hypothesis was put forward that the favourable effect of low speed on the number of accidents could be negated by an increase of accidents caused by the inattention of the driver. In this article the visual behaviour of the driver is discussed. On the basis of study results it is shown that with decreasing speed the number of eye fixations on the road as well as on other road users increases. In the discussion on the pros and cons of speed control humps the hypothesis was put forward that the favourable effect of low speed on the number of accidents could be negated by an increase of accidents caused by the inattention of the driver.
