Abstract

In 1999, NTT Communications Corporation, Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd., Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation promoted a project "The research and development for an advanced and general purpose of wireless IC (integrated circuit) card on vehicle", entrusted by TAO (Telecommunications Advancement organisation). In this project, IP (Internet Protocol) over DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication), which incorporates novel techniques for data reconstruction, address management, individual communication, variable rate transmission and broadcast was achieved. As an application of IP over DSRC, a parking lot management system was developed that provides users with various services such as non-stop entrance to the parking lot, guidance in the parking lot, information provision and connection to the Internet.
