Abstract

IRIS is a system for personalised dynamic travel information for public transport. IRIS gives the traveller easy access to travel information by mobile telephone, before, during, and after the trip. IRIS aims to improve the quality of information provided to travellers. The aim of the IRIS project is to enable the phased development of IRIS by: ensuring that the development of IRIS is integrated in every respect: the components of the system have to be compatible. The long-term goal of IRIS is to provide an integrated service enabling door-to-door transport; relating the short term pilot projects to the long term development of the concept; and ensuring that user needs and traveller preferences remain central in the development of the IRIS service. In 2001, various activities have been carried out in the context of the IRIS project. The activities resulted in three main results: the further development of the concepts of personalised service. The products include a demonstration of the service in a 'proof-of-concept', and a business case; the detailing of the system concept including a framework for standardisation of information flows; and the elaboration of the development process leading to the realisation of the IRIS-concept. Activities included workshops and interviews and the establishment of an IRIS discussion platform. (A)
