Abstract

The “cycling offer” within urban areas must be improved to encourage more people to cycle, including those who are risk-averse. The goal is now to “raise the bar” and to aim to provide for two-abreast cycling in a stress free and safe environment. This Manual embraces the Principles of Sustainable Safety as this will offer a safe traffic environment for all road users including cyclists. It offers guidance on integrating the bike in the design of urban areas. (Author/publisher) This manual may be accessed by Internet users at http://www.cyclemanual.ie/
