Abstract

IRTAD is a fast, up-to-date and reliable database on road accidents and traffic. Access to the database is either directly on the BASt host computer or by a copy on a microcomputer. A general view is given of IRTAD, its background, purpose and status. The database purpose is to enhance international comparability (including definitions) of road accidents, extend the amount and quality of data from OECD countries, facilitate international dissemination and accessibility of data and respond to the research needs of governments, international organisations, advisory bodies and industries. Information is included on groups of accidents, victims and exposure; no data is held on material damage. The database contains road traffic accident data as well as figures on resident and vehicle population from 20 to 25 countries. Future developments are outlined.
