Abstract

In 1999 in road accidents on Russian roads 29,718 persons were killed. The situation is very grave. In 1993 with the aim to provide stability to the number of killed and injured in accidents and decreasing the severity of consequences of road accidents, "The conception of the program for ensuring traffic safety on roads of Russia" was worked out. In 1996 Federal Program "Ensuring traffic safety on road of Russia" was confirmed by the Russian Government on the period of years 1996-1998. According to this program it was supposed for the first three years to accept special measures for realisation of the most hot actions for stabilisation risk level and dangerous of accidents. Presently the conception and program to ensure road traffic safety on roads of Russia for the period 2001-2003 are being worked out by the Russian specialists. One of the most important fields of activity is international co-operation, exchange of the experience, ideas and practical measures. A good example of it, the Global Road Safety Partnership operates under the framework of the Business Partners for Development (BPD) program initiated by the World Bank Group. At the same time mutual co-operation between all countries of Europe should be developed in the field. (A)
