Abstract

The first version of the European Framework Architecture for ITS was drawn up and issued in 2000 by the well-known initiative known as KAREN. Since the summer of 2001, the task of deploying this Architecture has been taken up by the FRAME projects. One of the main activities of the thematic network, FRAME-NET, is to encourage, monitor, and co-ordinate the various architecture initiatives being carried out at national level throughout Europe. Work on national architectures is being undertaken in a number of European countries, including France, Sweden, Norway, the UK, Finland and Italy. This paper looks at the current experience in Italy as an example of an approach to the deployment of the European Framework Architecture at national level. The Italian initiative is known as "ARTIST" which is also the name for the Italian National Architecture for ITS.
