Abstract

With the increasing use of mobile wireless devices, along with the growing public demand for improved and more reliable travel information, transportation agencies have been developing new ways of acquiring better data from the field and delivering it in real time to their constituents through a wider range of media. SMS (short message service) messaging technology, commonly know as texting, has become a widely popular method of digital communication in the last several yeas, and many transportation agencies are planning and implementing innovative ways of using this medium in the intelligent transportation systems (ITS) field.
