Abstract

Climate has become a major issue for humanity. Transport is responsible of significant carbon emissions. The French motorway operator Autoroutes duSud de la France (ASF), on the basis of a carbon audit of its activities, has analyzed the carbon issue of some traffic control, information or toll organization measures, based on intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Some cases are described within this article with their CO2 potential impact: reducing congestion by smothing traffic flow, suppressing stop andgoes on toll plazas, and information to promote eco-friendly driving.
