Abstract

A model is presented that allows road accidents involving dangerous goodstransport (DGT) at regional level to be estimated and monitored. The model is based on a nested structure representing a set of three macro-events that characterize the incident. Data on heavy vehicles involving dangerousgoods flows required for estimating road accident probability may be obtained by using a telematics system for monitoring DGT. Models to estimate road accident probability involving DGT are presented. An overview of ITS for monitoring is reported. In particular, a specific architectural function to obtain some variables of the probability function presented is proposed. Preliminary results from an application for generic Italian highways are presented. For the covering abstract see ITRD E145999
