As new forms of technology become pervasive among the next-generation of intelligent transportation system (ITS) public users (commonly referred toin the media as Millennials” or the Net Generation), it becomes necessary to reconsider common assumptions embedded in today's ITS applications to ensure that they reach these populations. Some transportation agencies in the US are exploring how web applications SMS technology (texting), andsocial networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook can be built upon toreach these audiences.
